The Video Platform Offers The Community Control to Limit Artificial Intelligence-Made Media in Timelines

Users will soon have a new feature that allows them to reduce the amount of artificial intelligence-produced videos appearing in their timelines. This initiative comes as the company disclosed that it now features more than 1 billion AI videos.

Trial and Implementation

The new functionality is undergoing trials over the next few weeks before a global rollout. This shift comes amid a rise in AI content, fueled by recent video-generation tools.

AI Proliferation Online

Studies have shown that nearly one in 10 of the quickest rising video streams on another major platform primarily display AI-generated videos. A considerable share of this material is classified as mass-produced AI material, a label for poor-quality, bulk-generated content that is typically illogical or dreamlike.

“We know from our community that a lot of users appreciate content made with AI tools, including computer-generated images to educational videos, and we want to give people the option to adjust the amount of that, based on their own likes,” commented a company executive.

Volume and Proportions

TikTok shared that there are presently 1.3 billion videos on its service tagged as AI-generated. Collectively, over 100 m videos are submitted to the service each day, making AI-generated material a limited portion of its overall inventory.

Customizing Your Feed

Viewers will be able to limit or boost the level of AI content they see by opening the topic control setting in the platform and selecting AI-made media. Other topics that currently be controlled under the tool include news, style, aesthetics, and dance.

Platform Guidelines

The platform’s rules require users to tag convincing AI-generated content, and it forbids harmful AI impersonations of public figures or emergencies. Any believable AI-generated clip that is without a tag can be removed under its user guidelines.

Furthermore, the platform will henceforth add an “AI-made” label to content created with its own AI tools, or flagged by an cross-platform project for spotting AI-generated material. This measure is designed to stop users from trying to bypass the labeling process.

Educational Initiatives

The platform is furthermore launching a $2m AI literacy fund for professionals and institutions to produce informative material about ethical AI use. This initiative will benefit non-profit groups focused on teaching programming and robotics.

Platform Protection

The platform has supported its content review process, during controversy over plans to cut jobs for hundreds of review team members in the UK. It is planning to cut hundreds of positions in its content moderation division in the UK capital, with labor groups and internet security professionals voicing alarm that people are being substituted by AI moderation.

A trust and safety lead clarified that human moderation would still have a role, but artificial intelligence can shield workers by removing the most graphic content ahead of it has to be seen by staff. TikTok reported a 76% decrease in explicit and harmful content seen by human moderators over the past year due to the use of its AI tools.

It is vital to combine humans and technology to keep the platform safe,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as part of that process, but we further consider it’s very important to minimize viewing of harmful content as swiftly, which is where a significant AI assistance is making a difference work at speed.”
